#7 Limit Testing

August 19, 2026
Okay, this is a quick one because I'm writing this whilst sitting in a lecture but I just wanted to get this out incase I forget. So back in 10th I remember playing League of Legends and there was this concept called limit testing that the pro players I used to watch did in order to understand the limits of their champion and what they could theoretically get away with without dying. Now, of course the beginners used this "I was just limit testing" as an excuse to throwing the game lol. But still, the actual concept is so incredibly important and I think you should know it exists at least. And I think you should apply it at every part of your life, and to life itself. Limit testing. In terms of productivity, of course we can quantify it, but always have this question at the back of your mind: "If I was REALLY trying, like really really really trying, if I had my life on the line, would the output I'm producing be what I could maximally produce? If the HONEST answer to that is yes, then man you're doing well." But like, honestly, there's always room for more. There's that limit we don't even know exists, few have touched it and burnt out. But the thing is that limit isn't static. Your brain is an adaptive evolutionary machine that can do some phenomenal things. So every time you think you've reached that limit, I think the next day you should try reaching the limit again and you'll find it is much higher than the last. And THAT'S LITERALLY the cheatcode to achieving the impossible. You can literally just limit test your way through life and you'll never be defeated. Because you're fighting your limit where as the opponent is fighting you. Like before learning about this, whatever your theoretical max was, you thought it was a static thing, something to only reach conservatively, to protect your health n shit. Bro, health adapts too. Like GENUINELY SAYING THIS (but without explanation for now) if you're working and your neural pathways are aligned in such a way that signal "you are required" in the external world, you just WOULDN'T GET SICK. FACTUALLY. I know it sounds absurd. But you get sick because you want to. It sounds absurd. But it is true. When I feel like I don't wanna do anything, when I'm just "tired" and bleh, next day I'm sick (which has happened only twice in the past year). It's arguable I know, I'm not giving you like a LOT of reasons to support my conclusions, but trust me. Anyway, it sounds very funny to League of Legends players, to "limit test", but honestly that mentality will push through any obstacle and you'll just keep growing, the only thing to keep in mind is "What's my theoretical max?" "What can I achieve if I didn't have limits?" "What if my limit just does not exist?" P.S. The reason I recalled this is I was in a Computer Networks lecture and we were being taught TCP (transmission control protocol) and in that, in order to avoid congestion but still find the maximum possible amount of throughput, we literally apply limit testing as a concept. Basically we keep doubling the number of packets sent and acknowledged back, until we find a number where we stop receiving acknowledgements. Then we take the previous number and keep adding 1 to reach that limit that congestion imposes. Pretty neat. You can apply that to effort as well, but you know... start with the max effort you know you can put, why'd you wanna start from 1? Okay! Class is over, see you again the next time I get some peculiar connection in my brain.
